Description

INTRODUCTION On the occasion of the centenary of Ned Kelly in 1980, Jean Bedford challenges the traditional masculine dominant myth of Ned Kelly. Bedford takes the gender issue as her central topic to reinterpret the Kelly myth from Kate Kelly's perspective. Through the experiences of the Kelly women, we learn about the "victim of victims" position of Irish women in colonial Australia. Kate is a representative of the bush women who experience the harshness of life and being oppressed, despised and vulnerable at work and at home.
